D.C. bill that would limit protest noise revived

WASHINGTON ( - The D.C. Council is reviving legislation aimed at quieting protesters in residential neighborhoods.

The Noise Control Protection Amendment Act of 2008 would limit noncommercial public speech to 70 decibels during the day.

The council had delayed the vote to address labor unions'' concerns that the bill could infringe upon their right to demonstrate.

Councilman Jack Evans, who moved to table the measure in February, says he''ll offer amendments when the proposal comes up for a vote. An initial vote is set for May 6.
