EMA meets Woodbrook residents as feteing starts
The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) will meet with members of
the Woodbrook Residents Committee today to discuss noise management
issues due to various events being held in the area. The EMA formed
relations with the Committee in 2009 and continues to work with the
residents to ensure that noise pollution is kept under control. At this
meeting, the EMA will also speak with venue owners regarding their
timely application for noise variations, as well as fete promoters who
plan to host events in the Woodbrook area. The meeting will address
noise management at venues such as the Jean Pierre Complex, Lions Club,
St John’s Ambulance Society, Queen’s Park Oval, National Flour Mills,
Woodbrook Youth Facility and Fire Services.
Noise can cause irritability, sleep deprivation and is harmful to
babies, the elderly, at-risk patients and pets. EMA’s Managing
Director/CEO, Dr Joth Singh said: “In 2012, the EMA will continue to
focus on noise management issues and utilise greater coordination
approaches and collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Police
Service. “While the EMA has been working under the Noise Pollution
Control Rules to control noise, the nuisance issue of noise can also be
effectively dealt with by any member of the police service under a
series of pieces of legislation. “The EMA therefore wishes to remind the
public that for effective and immediate relief from noise, they can
call the nearest police station.”
