After monitoring a number of events and serving a notice of violation, the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) has decided to step up its enforcement action against the Hasely Crawford Stadium, the home of "Soca Broadway".
EMSA officials said yesterday the group issued an administrative order that mandates stadium officials to immediately come into compliance with the Noise Rules (NPCR) 2001 and that they desist from further sound level breaches.
The order also consists of an Administrative Civil Assessment, which penalises violators for actual costs incurred by the EMA in dealing with the violation and for damages caused by their failure to comply.
The Administrative Civil Assessment uses criteria such as the nature, extent and gravity of the breaches, the degree of willfulness of the violator in committing the breach, the willingness of the violator to cooperate with the EMA, and any history of prior violations of the NPCR.
EMA environmental inspectors have been monitoring a number of events held at the venue since the start of Carnival 2006 and all have been in breach of the NPCR.
A notice of violation, served earlier this month, failed to effect any change in the noise levels produced at the stadium.
The Police Service, working in tandem with the Agency, has previously stopped fetes in full swing at the Hasely Crawford Stadium and the Oval.
