COIMBATORE: In connection with ‘Road Safety Week’ observed between January 2 and 8, the Regional Transport Office (RTO), will conduct week-long awareness programme in the city jointly with the traffic police and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB).
A specially designed propaganda bus to create awareness would halt in public places and schools. General public and students would be encouraged to go through the displays inside the bus, which would give tips to avoid accidents, dangers of travelling in footboard and so on.
“Toys driven by magnets will also be used to demonstrate the theme of the programme, which will be a special attraction,” said K Yogarajan, Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC).
The bus will also have a television, which will be used to screen short films on road safety. Special checks on air and noise pollution would be conducted for a week. On Monday, pollution check was conducted on the Trichy road.
District collector S Kosalaraman inaugurated the programme. Deputy Commissioner of police (Traffic) S Masilamani, General Manager of Transport Corporation Subramanian and District Environmental Engineer of TNPCB Elankumaran were also present.
